Kansas & Missouri See Housing Growth
From Kansas City Home Builders Association
Fueled by historically low interest rates and
a housing boom, Kansas added 12,988 housing units from July 1, 2001
to July 1, 2002 while Missouri gained 26,270 housing units in the
same period, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
Kansas ranked No. 21 in the nation in terms of growth of housing
units while Missouri followed at No. 23. According to the Census
Bureau, Kansas had a total of 1.1 million units in 2002 and Missouri
had 2.5 million housing units. Nationally there were an estimated
119.3 million housing units as of July 1, 2002.
Texas led the nation with 149,000 new housing units – or 10
percent of the increase in the nation’s housing inventory.
Florida came in second, adding 147,377 housing units. Rounding out
the top five were California (130,779); Georgia (87,909); and North
Carolina (76,480).
